Coal In The Snow Cookies

This is the perfect last-minute “cooler than cool” treat. Reminicent of deep fried oreos you might get on a stick at the fair, Coal In The Snow is super easy (only 4 ingredients), and a super fun surprise at first-bite.  If you can serve them right out of the oven, they’re especially yummy. Flaky, golden outside, and the oreo becomes creamy and melty inside.

Start with a can of 8-count crescent rolls. Don’t unroll them, just slice them into 16 equal pieces. Oreos get quickly dunked in milk then wrapped in the crescent dough. Bake until golden, only 10-11 minutes.

Straight out of the oven, sprinkle them with powdered sugar and serve. If you want to get really creative, you could make a powdered sugar glaze rather than dusting. Either way, serving Coal In The Snow at the holiday gathering will be a treat not soon forgotten.

Serves: 8
Ingredients
  • 1 can 8-count crescent rolls
  • 8 Oreo cookies
  • ½ cup milk, any fat count
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375ºF.
  2. Slice the cylinder of crescent roll dough into 16 pieces.
  3. Flatten each disk gently to make a circle a little larger than an oreo.
  4. Dunk an Oreo in the milk very quickly so it doesn't get soggy. Place on a crescent roll circle. Press another circle of dough on top and pinch the layers together to seal the Oreo inside.
  5. Repeat with each Oreo. Place Oreos on a parchment lined baking sheet, and bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Remove from oven and immediately dust with powdered sugar.
  7. Serve immediately if possible, but the cookies will keep for 24 hours in air tight container after cooling.
