Hot Pizza Dip

This recipe can be modified to be as loaded with toppings as you want or easily lightened up depending on your cravings. Add a little or a lot of meat, make it purely veggie, and even skip the cream cheese layer. It's all good.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F.

Layer the cream cheese base

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, Parmesan, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, and garlic powder. Spread the mixture evenly into the bottom of an oven-safe 9-inch glass pie plate.
8- ounce package cream cheese, 1 tbsp freshly shredded Parmesan cheese, ¼ tsp dried oregano, ¼ tsp dried basil, ¼ tsp red pepper flakes, ¼ tsp garlic powder

Add sauce cheese and toppings

  • Sprinkle half of the mozzarella over the cream cheese layer. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the cheese, then top with the remaining mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan.
1 cup Mozzarella cheese, 1 cup good quality jarred pizza sauce, ½ cheddar cheese, ½ cup fresh shredded Parmesan cheese
  • In a small sauté pan, cook sausage over medium heat until no longer pink, breaking up into small pieces. Remove sausage from pan with slotted spoon and spread over top of cheese in pie plate.
1 Hot or Mild Italian sausage
  • In the same pan, sauté the mushrooms and onions until just golden, adding a little oil or butter if needed. Spread them evenly over the dip.
10 fresh mushrooms, ½ small onion
  • Sprinkle the pepperoni, bell pepper, and black olives over the top. Add extra red pepper flakes if you like more heat.
20-30 mini pepperonis, ½ green bell pepper, 10 black olives

Bake until hot and bubbly

  • Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, golden, and bubbling around the edges.

Serve while warm

  • Serve immediately with crostinis, garlic toast, or sliced baguette.
Crostinis or sliced baugette for serving

Notes

Notes & Tips

  • Make-ahead friendly: Hot Pizza Dip can be fully assembled, covered, and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking. Bake just before serving for the best texture and flavor.
  • Best served fresh: While leftovers can be reheated, this dip tastes best the day it’s baked, when the cheese is fully melted and the flavors are at their peak.
  • Sauté for better flavor: Cooking the mushrooms and onions before layering them into the dip deepens the flavor and prevents excess moisture.
  • Customize your toppings: Add more or less meat, keep it vegetarian, or adjust the cheese to suit your preferences.
  • Serving tip: Serve Hot Pizza Dip warm with crostini, garlic toast, or sliced baguette for the best “pizza crust” experience.
