Fresh Fruit Salad with Honey Lime Dressing

Jump to Recipe - Print Recipe

This fresh fruit salad with honey lime dressing is everything you want in a summer side—light, juicy, and full of fresh flavor. The subtle hint of jalapeño might surprise you, but it’s what makes this simple fruit salad completely unforgettable.

Fruit Salad Medley in white bowl, cantaloupe, kiwi, watermelon, red and green grapes, and diced jalapeno

Fruit salad doesn’t need whipped cream or anything overly sweet to be memorable—especially in the summer when fruit is at its best. This fresh fruit salad keeps things simple with a light honey lime dressing that lets the fruit shine. And the jalapeño? It’s the little twist that makes people stop mid-bite and ask what makes it taste so good.

Why You’ll Love This Fruit Salad

• Fresh, not heavy: No creamy dressing—just bright citrus and honey that lets the fruit shine
• A unique twist: Jalapeño adds a subtle, fresh flavor—not heat
• Perfect for summer: Light, juicy, and incredibly refreshing on hot days
• Make-ahead friendly: Tastes even better after chilling
• Flexible ingredients: Use whatever fruit you have on hand

What Makes This Fruit Salad Different

Most fruit salads lean overly sweet or rely on heavy additions. This one is all about balance.

The combination of orange juice, lime juice, and honey creates a light, almost invisible dressing that enhances the fruit instead of coating it. And the jalapeño? It doesn’t make the salad spicy—it adds a subtle, almost floral brightness that makes the flavors pop.

It’s the kind of small detail that makes people go back for seconds.

Ingredients in Fruit Salad Medley

• Cantaloupe & watermelon: Sweet, juicy base for the salad
• Grapes: Add texture and a little snap
• Kiwi: Bright color and slight tang (add just before serving)
• Orange juice + lime juice: Fresh, citrusy base for the dressing
• Honey: Balances the acidity naturally
• Jalapeño: Finely chopped for a subtle, fresh flavor boost
• Lime zest: Adds extra brightness

Ingredient variations-

The fruit base can be changed up a bit depending on your desires; use any variety of melon in combination. Green grapes, red grapes, or a combination of both also brings textural variety and color to the salad. Kiwi is a good option or how about strawberries? All this sounds pretty standard (but tasty) summer salad… but when you toss in the dressing of orange and lime juices, honey and jalapeno pepper, this is anything but ordinary. The jalapeno is a must and won’t add heat but instead adds a floral dash of flavor that’ll make the flavors unique and bright. The medley needs about an hour in the fridge before serving because the dressing is almost like a marinade – it’s so light, you can’t see it in my pictures. If you want, pour more of the dressing into the salad to retain some of the juice at serving.

Tips for the Best Fruit Salad

• Chill before serving: The fruit absorbs the dressing and tastes even better after an hour
• Add kiwi last: Keeps it from getting too soft
• Cut fruit evenly: Helps everything marinate evenly
• Use ripe fruit: This makes the biggest difference in flavor
• Go light on jalapeño at first: You can always add more

FAQ

Does jalapeño make fruit salad spicy?

No. When finely chopped, jalapeño adds a fresh, slightly floral brightness—not noticeable heat.

Can I make this fruit salad ahead of time?

Yes. It actually tastes better after chilling for at least an hour.

What fruits can I substitute?

You can swap in strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, or honeydew depending on what’s in season.

How long does fruit salad last?

Best within 24 hours, but it will keep in the fridge for up to 2 days.

This Fruit Salad Medley is one of those recipes that surprises people in the best way. It looks simple, but that light citrus dressing and hint of jalapeño make it feel just a little special. This fruit salad pairs really well with richer brunch dishes like Chocolate French Toast. Whether you’re serving it at a summer barbecue or keeping a bowl in the fridge for snacking, it’s fresh, easy, and always the first thing to disappear.

This is by far my family’s favorite fruit salad. I change up the fruit depending on the what’s available but stick to the citrus/honey portion of the recipe without any changes. It’s definitely a recipe worth making over and over again!

Why do we need to wait to add the kiwis just before serving?

      Hi Ruth,
I like to wait to add the kiwis until the very end because they tend to get a big soggy and start to fall apart if they’re exposed to the lime juice for too long. Since the lime juice is acidic it breaks down other ingredients. Which is one reason lime and lemon juice is often used to soften meats in marinade. Hope this helps.
